Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliance Testing

HOCHTIEF Facility Management UK offer Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). The term “Portable Appliance” can be defined as any electrical equipment that connects to the electricity supply, directly or indirectly, by means of a removable plug, i.e. it is portable in so far as it can be moved without unwiring.

All portable electrical items must be safety tested at appropriate intervals. The consequences of an accident caused by this type of equipment can be serious, potentially resulting in fatal electric shock or serious burns, or fire affecting a company's entire premises.

We use high specification computerised PAT testing equipment designed for use where large amounts of portable appliances need to be tested.

Inspecting and testing should be proactive, i.e. planned preventative maintenance to avoid incidents arising, rather than reactive where action is taken in response to incidents/accidents that have occurred. The frequency of inspection and testing is directly related to the risk of damage and injury associated with items of equipment. The probability and severity of accidents will vary depending on the type of appliance, its environment and method of use.
